The Wind Howls

WINTER

The wind howls

The nights grow colder

Embraced in slumber, still each heart beats lonely

The last leaves fall from the trees

The desperate grasp for good memories comes up empty-handed

Winter has come

A freeze befalls good and bad times alike

The wind howls

Stinging words sear cold hearts

Snow falls gently, quietly, and blankets all

Silence of ignored conflict wraps their aching hearts in false security

Snow falls and falls, quiets all beneath, blissful silence impassionate

A hurting heart bursts, breaks the silence, isolation unpalatable

The wind howls

Stingng words sear hearts grown colder

Oh God, will it always be winter?

Will spring never come again?

SPRING

A light breeze blows

The days grow warmer

Safe gestures of care warm a frosted heart

Buds sprout from long dead branches

Words courteous, attitudes humble from self-sin revealed

Spring has come

A warm breeze brushes good and bad times alike

Grace conquers judgement

Rain falls softly, whispering, and renews all

Uncharged words attend conflict, painful offense replaced by hope-filled understanding

A heart beats free, sings praises of life anew

A light breeze blows

Another heart glows warmer

Oh God, Spring does come.

Let winter never come again.

SUMMER

The air is still

The sun in glory basking

Eyes twirl with his peaceful smile

Leaves stretch on sprigs alive

The blessing now unveiled, two souls made one

Summer has come.

The sand clings, it’s heat soothes deep and joy responds alas

Love proclaims all

Clouds in awe fathom, fruitful life overflowing

Countenance speaks of innermost healing, abundant kindness

Two hearts bound together, praise the Father

The air is still.

Gentle words kindle trust anew

Oh God, Summer but Spring fulfilled.

Let Summer never end.

I wrote the Winter and Spring on March 2, 2004 when we were still in the middle of our healing. I wrote Summer for Valentine’s Day 2006. I love you Denise, thanks for going through this to the other side.
